As a counsellor and play therapist, I've spent years working with children & seeing firsthand how challenging it can be for them, and for parents, to navigate big emotions. I wanted to create a joyful, accessible, & non-intimidating tool that could help children as young as three begin to recognise, explore, & understand their feelings. The idea of a garden where emotions bloom as colourful flowers just felt like a natural, gentle way to approach such an important topic.
In Blooming Buds in My Garden, each emotion, whether it's happiness, sadness, anger, or even disgust, is represented by a unique, brightly coloured flower. This visual metaphor makes abstract feelings tangible for young children. As they turn the pages, they see how different emotions look & feel, learn simple names for them, and discover that all feelings are natural & okay. It helps them build an emotional vocabulary & associate emotions with something beautiful & manageable.
Emotional literacy is foundational for so much in life. When children can identify and manage their emotions, they're better able to cope with challenges, build healthy relationships, solve problems, and even perform better academically. It reduces anxiety, improves self-esteem, and sets them up for success.
